Trip Itinerary - 2017
Lord Howe Island provides a feast for creative endeavour. There is pattern, texture, colour and drama almost everywhere you look. We have several painting sites across the island which we reach by bus or on foot. LHI is relatively small in size, the longest bus ride is about 7 minutes. The highest point on the island is Mt Gower, Mt Gower is a vertical mass of volcanic rock perched on the end of the beautiful lagoon. LHI experiences a perennial spring and weather is usually mild – from 19 degrees. Our painting days run from 9.30 to 5pm. We also schedule in some evening activities, a talk, review and an evening BBQ at beautiful Neds Beach.
Idris supports and inspires us individually and collectively with story, demonstration, looking at paintings from master artists, your work and our LHI environment throughout the week.
Each day we are supported by our friends at the Anchorage restaurant bringing us Morning and afternoon teas and lunch so we can focus on painting. Dinner each night is at 7pm, we gather in our recreation room to walk or take the bus to our restaurant, we share a joke about taking the adventurous route through the bull paddock! Our bus driver picks us up in the evening each night to take us back to our accommodation. The more adventurous or night owls stay on and walk home.
Idris is a master teacher and artist. His lessons are about how to interpret the landscape in paint and his areas of interest focus on composition, colour, mark and space. He taps into an undefinable and seemingly endless resource to support his teachings. He is a truly amazing person to spend a week with. Lord Howe Island provides us with an endless supply of subject matter and painting experiences. We enjoy the mild temperatures and kind weather LHI provides us, however in case of poor weather we have a backup hall arranged as well as some weather proof outdoor locations
