Lord Howe Island Getaway with Idris Murphy 2015
Take a trip to paradise, relax, unwind and witness one of the most spectacular destinations on earth. Surrounded by pristine beaches, lush forest canopies and flourishing wild life you will find a rich and diverse source of inspiration for 6 days of Plein Air Painting with Award winning Australian Artist Idris Murphy.
Lord Howe Island is definitely a must see, taking out the top spot on Australian Traveller's -100 Things To Do Before You Die 2011. The heritage listed location hosts only a maximum 400 people at any one time. Take your time to explore this exclusive island on foot, paddle board, kayak or by bicycle and see what this magnificent place has to offer. Idris works from direct observation, combines this with an undefinable reservoir of knowledge in history, art theory, philosophy and culture and years of practical experience in both teaching and painting to then form works of simple elegance which challenge colour theory and space. He is able to articulate complex ideas simply and exposes students to a variety of ideas and approaches. His work speaks of Australian spaces, it is sophisticated, simple and utterly original. Idris is a one-off. A workshop with him is an experience which takes you beyond the practicality of painting. Idris is very generous with his vast knowledge and I have come back feeling a new enthusiasm for my own work and looking at others with a new eye. Billie Ross, Lord Howe Island Getaway 2015 |

Roger Crawford 2015
Roger Crawford is one of the treasures of the world of art education.
Through the media of painting, drawing, installations and sculpture, Roger invites his students to explore concepts of materiality and urges us to re-examine our relationship with the physical world. This fascinating workshop is process driven, and will help you to identify the elements of process to develop your own art. Through his unique perspective on the mark makers and the colourists of American expressionists and their legacy, Roger challenges our assumptions about how we absorb and respond to visual data, and how we may translate that rich experience into contemporary art forms. Rogers’s incredible knowledge is delivered with kindness and support. This workshop is suitable for intermediate students. Roger is represented by Watters Gallery, Sydney, www.wattersgallery.com. http://www.rogergcrawford.com/ |
